Innovation PEI has invested in the Ahead Mind Sport Training cell phone app designed by Island sports psychology business Ahead In the Game.
“Athletes need to train for mental fitness just like they train for physical fitness if they want to achieve peak performance,” says Tara Costello, president of Ahead In The Game. “It’s a real honour to have Innovation PEI’s support to build a broad audience of Canadian athletes who are committed to developing their mental game.”
The Ahead Sport Mind Training app is designed for both elite athletes who want to take their mental game to the next level, and for developing athletes who want to use mental training to achieve their next personal milestone.
One of the app’s key features is a Mental Skills Tool Box that uses video, audio and text to foster nine skills to build focus, minimize negative thinking, overcome worries, and control breathing. Another feature, the Peak Performance Tracker, encourages users to reflect on their mental state during past successes, set goals for upcoming competitions, and track progress towards their personal goals.
“Over the past 15 years, I’ve seen how mental performance training has given the athletes I’ve worked with a real competitive edge,” says Costello. “It’s exciting to bring together the strategies that have worked best for my clients in the app.”
Ahead In The Game has worked with athletes and teams including N.H.L./ A.H.L. players, Special Olympics Canada National team program, Nationally Ranked Junior Tennis Athletes, Canadian Youth Olympic team members, Canadian Junior Curling teams, and P.E.I.’s Canada Games teams.
“For athletes who have struggled with inconsistent results, slumps, and/or who want the competitive edge mental performance consulting can give, this type of training is key to their future success,” says Costello. “We’re confident that the app will help make athletes’ biggest day their best day.”
“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to share our mental performance formula across Canada to help athletes improve their mental game.”
